Hey lovelies it’s Yasmin Vorajee from Tiny Time Big Results and today let’s talk about how you can tame that monkey mind of yours when it comes to sales.
Now here’s the thing that you need to know about your monkey mind. Your monkey mind wants to keep you safe. It wants to maintain the status quo, where you are right now. It’s safe, it’s comfortable, it wants to stay there.
No matter how much you want to break out and you want to make those big leaps, your brain is trying to keep you safe. Which is all well and good. But when you don’t want to stay in that place anymore you have to allow yourself to feel the discomfort and push past what the monkey mind is saying and doing to hold you in that place.
The thing is, it’s exactly the same for your prospect. That person is also fighting with his or her monkey mind. We’re all trying to stay safe and the thing is when you’re doing sales calls and you’re getting frustrated because people are saying “no, it’s too expensive” or “it’s not the right time”, and there’s all these reasons why they can’t do it what’s happening is that the monkey mind is running the show and so it’s really important for you to be aware of this because you’ll know your own dialogue that your monkey mind has.
So when you’re aware of it then you can counteract it. What I mean by that is it means you have to show up as the leader in the sales situation, in that sales call. Your prospect has booked the sales call for a reason. They were looking for help and what you do is a match for them and they want to find out a little bit more about how to work with you. Okay, so they already have made that micro-commitment of booking the call with you but then you don’t want their monkey mind to run the show once they’re in the call with you. As soon as you start talking and they’re like “oh yeah this is really good”. And you’ve got the little monkey mind just chattering away on one side and you know there’s a big part of you that really wants to make the leap and take that step but the monkey mind is going crazy.
So when you step into the leadership position during your sales calls what you’re doing is you’re giving that person a safe space for them to realise that yes your monkey mind is there but it’s not allowed to drive the bus.
Liz Gilbert says it beautifully when she says you know fear is a part of you. It’s with you on the bus, it can have a passenger seat but it is forbidden to drive. And so when you’re aware that their monkey mind is going crazy this is when you have to think about how you’re going to counteract that. And you know there are ways to get around this.
It goes back to making sure you’re very clear on who your ideal client is. The people who need you, who are looking for the solution you provide, and more importantly, they are willing to pay. They are willing to invest. You could be telling yourself all these stories that people won’t buy, it’s too expensive etc. And you know the reasons. You go through them enough times in your own head.
But when you allow fear to run the show, you hold yourself back. So when you are in a sales call, show up in a position of leadership for your prospect. And before you even show up in the call make sure you’re very clear on who your ideal client is. Make sure they fit the avatar you have created and this avatar is the ultimate of who you want to work with. Send out the intention to the universe that this is the kind of person that you want to work with and say “Universe bring them to me. Put me in situations where I’m going to be able to connect with these people”. And then tell the monkey mind “Listen, you’re not driving this bus. Get back over there and let me take care of this okay?”
Remember all the stuff that’s going on for you in your monkey mind is exactly the same for your prospect. And when you have a level of awareness about it you can counteract it. You’ll never gonna get rid of the monkey mind but you can tame it.
I hope that’s been useful to you today. Let me know your thoughts, questions and comments.
